Agricultural Cooperatives in Brunei : Brief Overview
Agricultural cooperatives operate under the joint purview of two key government bodies:
1) Cooperative Development Unit (CDU), under Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE)
- Oversees the corporate governance and registration of cooperatives, including financial management, compliance, and capacity building.
2) Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DoAA), under Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT)
- Focuses on the technical, operational, and agricultural development aspects of cooperatives.
Support Activities by CDU:
To facilitate the growth and sustainability of cooperatives in Brunei, activities as such were conducted:
1) Dialogue Session With Cooperatives: Prevent Corruption Before It's Too Late
2) Briefing Session On Corporate Governance for Cooperatives
3) Briefing On Potential Business Opportunities In Tourism Sector
4) Dialogue Session On The Importance Of Zakat In Cooperatives
Support Activities by DoAA:
To strengthen the performance of agricultural cooperatives, DoAA provides various hands-on training and capacity-building initiatives, such as:

Demonstrations on propagation techniques

Field training on crop management practices (e.g. pruning, fertilizing)

Workshops on the proper and safe use of pesticides
These initiatives aim to enhance productivity, encourage sustainable practices, and support national efforts towards agricultural diversification and food self-sufficiency.
